15 advocating - for life

To advocate means to speak up, speak up on behalf of, and to speak forward - towards a new idea.

Everything we do is kept secret if we don't talk about it; everything we do is amplified and made more powerful if we speak up - speak up about the issue of climate and nature breakdown; and speak up on behalf of those who will be hit first and worst by climate impacts.

Getting the writing on the wall!

Communication is the first step to inspiration. And thinking sideways and wayyyy out of the box is the first step of communication! We at Volunteer Cornwall use our whole building to talk about the climate and nature emergency and what we're doing about it...

Working in partnership...

We know none of us can do this alone. So we at Volunteer Cornwall are working closely with our clinical colleagues to ensure we are all stepping up, and speaking up, and enabling everyone to find a way to take action. Our ICB has funded a small number of hours every month for 3 "Integrated Care Area Climate Leads" - and as one example, one is working with our team to create an information and engagement event on climate and health this autumn. We're also ensuring some of our most vulnerable patients are kitted out with simple plastic bags to keep meds dry, and young girls have access to reusable sanitary products to ensure they can still go to school whilst having their period:  climate action is about social justice. It's all about joining the dots.
