practical projects and ideas
We use our time, our contacts, our partnerships and small pots of money to develop all sorts of positive, practical and productive on the ground projects that are easy to copy and modify. We were supported by the fab Public Health team in Cornwall Council to deliver a whole series of Green Genius projects in 2022/23 - you can see them here! You can see also them in our series of "microgreen" case studies on each of our 15 action area pages. If you want to know more about any of these projects, click a section on this page to get to more info, or just email us here.
When faced with a troublesome crisis, the best antidote is often rolling up our sleeves and getting stuck in. Our Public Health Team at Cornwall Council helped us do that over the winter of 2022 and 20223 by using some surplus funds to enable our Climate and Nature Pioneer Practices to turn their ideas into real, tangible and inspiring action. Brilliant.
We help practices get support and resources for ebikes, bike racks, bike kit, bike storage, and bike signage. How can we help you?
We're working with numerous practices to support the use of reusable kit, PPE, and objects used daily ... because once is definitely not enough! Climate and environmental social justice is also high on our agenda - as you can see in our Green Genius projects for weather-proof bags for crucial meds for people who are street homeless, insulated cups for cold people seeking hot drinks in our warm hubs over the winter, or school-proof reusable sanitary products for young girls in Cornwall. Brilliant.
We know working outside in the garden is good for us, good for habitat and good for the climate - and is the most fantastic opportunity to collaborate with the local civic society organisations supporting community gardens and collective growing. So we're striding into a healthy permacultural future, and bringing it to the practice doorstep ...
And here is the completely fab thing: taking positive action on the climate and nature crisis is actually really, really good for us as health professionals. Should be no surprise - our lives are dedicated to taking action to make things - and people - better. But the best antidote to something worrying us is action. And staff have a tonne to deal with at the moment - so turn the climate and nature crisis into an opportunity to enable staff to feel great empowered and positive and one of the "taking action" tribe. It's a no-brainer...
And the BMJ is very, very clear on how important the climate emergency is for our health systems.
And hear more on their podcast here about how all the action we are taking is actually really, really good for us as health professionals.
